There are seven wine grape growing regions in Texas. Big Bend Country, Gulf Coast, Hill Country, Panhandle Plains, Piney Woods, Prairies and Lakes, and the South Texas Plains region.
The largest concentration of wineries can be found in the is in the Prairies and Lakes region with 45% of the Texan wineries.
There are eight approved American Viticultural Areas in Texas:Texas Davis Mountains AVA, Texas High Plains AVA, Texas Hill Country AVA, Mesilla Valley AVA, Fredericksburg in the Texas Hill Country AVA, Escondido Valley AVA, Bell Mountain AVA and Texoma AVA.
The Mesilla Valley AVA is also in parts of New Mexico.
Fredericksburg in the Texas Hill Country AVA and Bell Mountain AVA are part of the Texas Hill Country AVA.
