The map of Virginia has been divided into nine regions: Blue Ridge, Central, Chesapeake Bay, East, Hampton Roads, Heart of Appalachia, North, Shenandoah Valley, and South.
There are six approved American Viticultural Areas in Virginia: Monticello AVA, Northern Neck George Washington Birthplace AVA, North Fork of Roanoke AVA, Rocky Knob AVA, Shenandoah Valley AVA and Virginia's Eastern Shore AVA.
All but the Shenandoah Valley AVA are completely withing the borders of Virginia.
A small part of the Shenandoah Valley AVA is located in West Virginia.
