Indiana is located in the Great Lakes region, Indianapolis is the capital. Well known for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and not so much for wine, there are over 55 wineries in the state of Indiana. Over half of these wineries are located in the South and South Central regions.

American Viticultural Areas (AVA)

There is one approved AVA in Indiana, the Ohio River Valley AVA. The Ohio River Valley viticultural area also covers parts of Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky and is one of the largest AVA's. It is 16 640 000 acre = 6 733 969 hectare in size.
