Geneva is located in southwestern Switzerland along the western end of Lake Geneva, bordering France. It is the third-largest wine-producing canton in Switzerland and benefits from a temperate climate moderated by the lake and surrounding Jura foothills.
Vineyards are spread across gently rolling terrain between the Rhône and Arve rivers. The lake provides reflected sunlight and helps reduce frost risk, while varied soils of clay, limestone, and gravel support diverse grape varieties.
Geneva produces both white and red wines under the AOC Genève designation. Chasselas remains important for fresh, dry white wines, while red varieties such as Gamay and Pinot Noir are widely cultivated. International grapes including Merlot and Chardonnay are also planted. Wines are predominantly dry, with balanced acidity and moderate alcohol levels, reflecting the region's cool-climate precision.
Production is moderate in scale, and much of the wine is consumed locally within Switzerland and nearby France.
